Younsters or oldsters - Which is best

Why do we call perosns young or old because of the notion we have been taught to think that old is useless and young can perform well. Anyone who talks about the difference has to evaluate the strengths and weakness each group has in an organisation , and arrive at whether younsters are better or oldsters are better. I think we should banish this thought altogeher.

We cannot run an organization solely with yougsters or solely with oldsters. We need motley of both the groups, allocating activities to get rsults from both the groups. No individual gets into an organisation with treasure of experinece. Experience gained in one organisation is taken to another organiztion to survive and succeed. Experience also depends on variety of factors, and the more important is exposure to multifarious tasks and not stereotyped ones.

Whilst youngsters work hand in hand with oldsters, they get a chance to have hands-on experience, and when the oldsters leave or resign, the youngsters are well groomed to replace. Mind you, mental maturity does come age and exposure, exosure not only to problems but to people as well, and people of all hues.

Telling the old to listen to the youngsters or telling the youngsters to listen to the oldsters, is not motivation. Motivation comes in different shapes and sizes, and each organization has to work out what is best suited to their managers, youngsters and oldsters alike. Motivation done properly and thoughtfully, will propel everyone to function to the best of his or her ability. Motivation is meant to manage the compnay; motivation is not meant to divide the groups through words!

What matters is contribution to the growth of the company, whether one is in his or her 20s or in his or her 50s. Tatas allowed employees to work beyond the age of retirement. Irani, Russy Mody served the company upto 75 years.
The other day I heard soneone in BPO say that he was having a chat with an American who was 75 years old. He joined the company at 25, and he is still serving well. Donald Trump employs many oldsters, one among, a lady, is 82 years.

Warren Buffet, in his 70`s now, is looking for a replacement for the past three years. He is unable to find one in the age group of 40 and less; but decided to recruit four persons in his place, as he wanted to retire from his occupation.
He interviewed many in the age group of 30 and 40 but none was found suitable to replace him.

Even in family owned companies, the youngsters are not alloed to be at the helm of the company. They are asked to learn the ropes before they are ready to take on bigger challanges.
